Celebrating Earth Day

by Debbie Caldwell 03/26/2024

Today as we celebrate another Earth Day, I am remind that that there small things each of us can do to ensure that we leave the world better than we found it for our children and the generations to come.

Reduce, Reuse, and recycle.  As obvious as this advise seems.  Ever little bit of plastic waste, every upcycled item we buy helps reduce waste in our environment and landfills.

Embracing Sustainable practices.  Replacing paper towels with washable hand towels, using a refillable water bottle, and purchasing energy efficient appliances and vehicles can eliminate waste and strain on our environment.

Connecting with nature.  Take a walk in any one of the plentiful parks around Brevard County is a great way to reconnect with our environment and remind ourselves of the importance of green spaces not just for the environment but also our own mental and physical health.

Support Environmental Initiatives.  Planting trees, supporting sustainable fishing, giving vocal and financial support to initiatives that help clean up our local water ways are just some small ways we can help.  Remember that supporting local initiatives are just as important as supporting statewide, national, and international programs.  Every little bit helps.

Growing a greener tomorrow doesn’t have to be overwhelming or to big to handle.  Sometime it is the little things that make the biggest difference.  Let’s work together this Earth Day and year round to create a world of beauty for the generations to come.

Happy Green Living!
