The airport has come a long way from it’s humble origins. The Airport was a cow pasture when the U.S. Post Office decided to establish an air mail stop in 1928. The post office contracted with Florida Airways to deliver mail to what is now Melbourne International Airport under the Kelly Act. This became a designated fueling stop and air mail stop. The location later became a Naval Air Station during World War II. Finally developing into the Melbourne Municipal Airport after the war. The airport saw an increase in traffic during the height of the space golden age. The current name was established in 2015.
Whether traveling for fun or profit, consider using the airport in our own backdoor.
